VW/Audi's Owned:
Two so far, four
technically
Wasserwerks: How
long have you been involved in the VW/Audi hobby?
Brent Gleason:
Only about 2 years, but my
father had two ’66 beetles and I can still remember him having those. I got
locked under the hood of one once; it’s all my brother’s fault…
WW:
What first got your interest in these types of cars?
BG:
My buddy Matt had a
few and I really liked working on them. They were a lot better than my
Cavalier, which burned a quart of oil a DAY…

WW:
What cars do you presently own?
BG:
I have a 1987 Cabriolet and
a 2007 Rabbit. Technically, I took over ownership of two Sciroccos, but they
are not in my possession, and possession is 9/10ths the law…
WW:
What cars do you wish you owned?
BG:
I want a MK4 R32. But, then
again, don’t we all? I also wouldn’t mind getting one of those Scirocco
projects running.
WW: What cars do you wish you
still owned?
BG:
I miss my truck. It
was a 2000 S-10 and it was a darn good vehicle, but I had to sell it to get
my new Rabbit. I also wish I had the money for another race car, but the
Rabbit is sucking all of it out of me…

WW:
What do you like to do with your car(s) (show/race/etc.)?
BG:
Just cruise around and take
them to shows now. I grew really bored with the entire competitive show
scene. I got my plaques… so it’s time to sit back and have more fun just
hanging out instead of paying attention to silly details.
WW:
What are your future plans for your car(s)?
BG:
The Cabriolet is
getting sold soon to make room for the Scirocco project, I want to chip,
intake and exhaust my new Rabbit. Dood, that’d be sweeeet….
WW:
What other hobbies do you have?
BG:
Racing and Hockey. I
honestly cannot live without either one. I used to race a few years ago but
I had to give it up for
college and I’ve been missing it recently. Hockey is
just my way of keeping in a better shape, and it’s a ton-o-fun.
WW:
What is your best personal VW/Audi Story?
BG:
Well, every time I
take out the Rabbit it draws some slack jaw gazes, but those aren’t any
good. However, there was the time when, again, my buddy Matt had this
haggard-ass 1981 Rabbit Convertible and we were trying to get it running. So
here I am, spraying ether down the throttle body to see if it would even
fire, and the next thing I know, I’M the one that’s on fire. That was fun,
in a masochistic sort of way. What’s even funnier is that’s not the only
time I’ve been on fire working on cars. I’ll let
Matt tell you about the
time he (kinda) fit a couch in his MK2 Golf…
