Project Hole-In-One

Part 1 - The Starting Point

After eight years and well over 100,000 mile of hard driving, my old Jetta is in need of replacement.  Witness the recently deceased power steering rack, which joins the clutch and windshield on a growing list of parts requiring attention or replacement.  Once I spend money on the mechanicals, I still can look forward to spending considerably more money on some good bodywork and a quality paint job.   Rather than go through all that, I've decided to go pick up a more solid car, get any required work done on it, and finally swap my Jetta's good mechanicals over to this new car.

Thanks to fellow member Chris Knox, I am now the proud owner of Wasserwerks first project car; a 1986 Golf.  Now as many of you already know, I already own an '86 Golf, which is currently being built to SCCA Improved Touring specs.  After toying with the idea of putting that car back together and driving it (it still being registered and all) I decided that we've gone too far on

In the coming few weeks, you will see the transformation of this plain old Golf 3-door into an autocrossing, show going, daily driving fun car.   Thanks to years of work on my Jetta, this new car will feature countless suspension, brake, functional, and cosmetic upgrades to make it stand out from the crowd.

In Part 2, we will look at the car in further detail; looking at its good
